Promise You Won't Freak Out
by Doris A. Fuller and Natalie Fuller with Greg Fuller

NOW PLAYING IN ... LITHUANIA!?

Yes, Promise You Won't Freak Out has crossed the pond and made its European debut in . . . Lithuania.

Our understanding is that the Lithuanian edition is being marketed to young adult readers who want to know more about American teenagers. Scary thought, huh? Natalie and Greg as "model" Americans?! All we know for now is that the book design was dandy and we are now officially "Mama Doris, Natali and Gregas." If anyone out there reads Lithuanian, we'd love to know the literal translation of the title!

Elsewhere on the book front, the agreement with CBS/Paramount has been inching its way through the contract phase in the months since I last wrote. The draft paperwork finally arrived in June and the agreement is now undergoing final polishing. In the life of a book option, the next phase is for screenwriters to be hired to develop a script for the pilot. If a script gets written and the network likes it, they'll order a pilot. If they like the pilot, they'll order the show. If the show succeeds, they'll order more shows. All easier said than done! But if we pass any of these milestones, you'll see the news here first. The odds are long and the network has nearly another year before the option elapses so it could be a while or never but it sure has been fun.

We didn't win the Books for a Better life award but it's impossible to be disappointed about being one of five finalists for a prestigious national award, especially when the honor offers an excuse to be feted in a landmark theater in New York City. And though the book is now more than a year old now (a fairly geriatric condition in publishing unless a book becomes a best-seller), we continue to get interview inquiries and speaking invitations. A writer for Reader's Digest interviewed me a few weeks ago for a story that will appear in some editions in November and one or both of us will be speaking in Seattle in October.

All the same, having an out-of-state college student and a teacher working abroad for co-authors makes book promotion pretty impractical. Barring the launch of a TV series, the period of active promotion and exciting news for Promise is probably behind us. Sensational Children: Hope and Help for Children with Sensory Processing Disorder, the groundbreaking book I wrote with and for Dr. Lucy Jane Miller in the year since Promise came out, should be in bookstores by early spring. If you have or know a child or student with sensory issues, this is one you won't want to miss. You can learn more about SPD at http://www.sinetwork.org

Meanwhile, our North Idaho days are already growing shorter and cooler. Natalie is off to her second year of college, Greg lands in Madrid shortly for the second year on his teaching-his-way-around-the-globe program, and-after four book projects in little more than five years, I have granted myself a writing sabbatical and am keeping busy in new and novel ways.

We trust your own days are equally full of new adventures and thank you for sharing the amazing ride that Promise You Won't Freak Out took us on.
